SHIFT-AI: Safeguarding Human-AI Interaction via Feedback from Teens

Generative AI products like ChatGPT and Claude are changing how humans learn, create, and connect. But they can also raise important safety concerns for young people — from over-reliance and emotional attachment, to misinformation and fraud. SHIFT-AI gives you the chance to work directly with researchers and policymakers to identify these risks and design practical solutions.

Across five interactive sessions, YPAG members will:

  • Explore how young people are using generative AI in day-to-day life (and what risks arise)
  • Co-create ideas for how AI systems could be made safer and more age-appropriate
  • Test one of these “safeguards” in a sandbox environment with real AI models.
  • Co-author a ‘For Young People, by Young People’ toolkit that will be shared with the UK Government (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology), developers, and educators

This is a unique opportunity to have your voice heard at the national level and help guide best practice for AI and young people in the UK.
